Where Fear Becomes Fuel: A Transformational Women’s Ride at Fort Ord

There comes a moment in every rider’s journey when something shifts.

It’s not just about getting stronger on the bike. It’s about learning to trust yourself. To move through fear instead of avoiding it. To discover that what once felt intimidating can become something you ride with confidence, control, and even joy.

That’s the experience we’re creating at the MTB Girls Ride Club Fort Ord Women’s MTB Ride in Monterey, California.

A Ride Designed for Real Progress

This ride is thoughtfully designed for beginner to intermediate women riders who are ready to build confidence, refine foundational skills, and feel more in control on the trail.

Set against the rolling hills and scenic coastal landscape of Fort Ord National Monument, riders will experience a mix of smooth singletrack, gentle climbs, and approachable descents—ideal terrain for progression in a supportive, encouraging environment.

But this is more than just a skills ride.

Building Confidence from the Inside Out

At MTB Girls Ride Club, we believe that the most powerful transformation happens when mindset and movement come together.

During this experience, riders will focus on:

  • Developing strong body positioning for balance and control

  • Improving braking, cornering, and climbing technique

  • Learning how to navigate terrain with intention

  • Building resilience and confidence through guided progression

We also introduce key mindset principles inspired by 23 Principles of Mountain Biking, helping riders learn how to work through fear and turn it into forward momentum.

Because when your mindset shifts, your riding follows.

Real Transformation, Real Riders

For many women, the biggest barrier isn’t skill—it’s fear. And the right environment makes all the difference.

As MTB Girls Ride Club member Tabitha B. shares:

“All my husband wanted to do was ride with me and help me feel comfortable, but I fought him every step of the way. Looking back, I don’t know why—maybe it was the pressure, and my body would just shut down and say no. But when Liz came into my life, everything changed. We’d sit on the tailgate, talking about snacks, Gatorade, and where we were going to ride, and I felt this sense of peace. She would guide me through the ride step by step. I was still challenged, but I felt safe—and that made all the difference. I started riding things I used to walk. I stopped getting frustrated. My confidence grew, and now my husband is so proud of me. Liz changed my life on and off the bike.”

This is the kind of transformation that happens when riders feel supported, understood, and empowered to grow at their own pace.

A Supportive Community of Women Riders

One of the most impactful parts of this experience is the community.

You’ll ride alongside a group of like-minded women who are all working toward the same goal: becoming stronger, more confident riders. The environment is welcoming, inclusive, and focused on growth—not pressure.

Many riders leave not only with improved skills, but with:

  • New friendships

  • Trusted ride partners

  • A deeper sense of belonging in the mountain biking community
